Students who wish to use Linux on the lab computers can use the lab in Askja 166.

Start by restarting a computer you would like to use and select one of the Ubuntu Linux operating system editions. If nothing is chosen within 10 sec. the computer automatically restarts Windows operating system.

The computer labs generally offer Mac OS, Windows and Ubuntu Linux on
the desktop computers. For selecting an operating system, the user must
reboot the corresponding computer, and select the preferred OS from a
menu. In the computerlab in Askja, (The Natural Sciences House) users
can only choose between Windows and Ubuntu Linux. The user can turn the
computer off and then turn it on again and then wait approximately 30
seconds for the menu.

We have gotten a lot of requests about making Timetables for Computer labs visible for users so they can find out online where they can go to use the labs undisturbed by classes and tests.

Now we can happily inform you that this it now available in Ugla. If you click on Computing services -> Computer lab -> Timetables you will get a list of timetables for all the Computer labs.

By clicking the name of the computer lab on the left a pie chart appears with the number of available computers, in use and computers not connected to the Internet (probably turned off).

Click the name of the computer lab in order to get a picture of available computers.

Please be aware that the reservations for the computer labs are made in the HTS system in the Owl. If you don’t have access to HTS you need to contact the office manager of your department. For further information regarding the reservations please contact the IT Help: help@hi.is

The price of renting a computer lab per hour (number of computers X 150,- kr/hour):

The computer labs on Háskólatorg 204 and Árnagarður have a multifunctional printer, which serves both as a printer and scanner. Below are further instructions on how to use the printer.

Notice! the price for printing one piece of paper in colour is 5 units and 1 unit for black/white.

There are 3 scanners on campus, which  are located in the computer labs on Háskólatorg 204, Askja 166 and VR-II 260.

The screen below should be the first one you see on the machine:

1. Log on by selecting "E-mail". A new screen appears where you type relevant information in the empty fields.

Reiknistofnun Háskóla Íslands (RHI) operates 15 computer labs around campus. All the computer labs have Windows operating system. In computer lab HT-204 there is also MacOS operating system and in Askja 166 there is also Linux. Further instructions for Linux are here.
